# Supervised Learning in Astrophysics: Random Forests in Practice **Speaker:** Maximiliano Blanco • **Date:** 15-05-2026 ## When / Where Friday 15th May at 11:30 am • Sala Seminario ## Abstract In recent years, new facilities and large astrophysical surveys have begun to produce unprecedented volumes of data. Analyzing and managing this information using traditional manual approaches is becoming increasingly inefficient and impractical. Machine learning offers a powerful alternative for solving these challenges. In this talk, I will introduce the fundamental concepts behind supervised learning, with a particular focus on Random Forest algorithms and how they work. I will also present several real-world applications of supervised learning across different areas of astrophysics. Finally, we will have a brief hands-on session aiming to provide the basic tools needed to start building and apply supervised learning models in your own research. ## Files - Video: [video](https://youtu.be/zE7Yu2PCWMk) - Slides: [RandomForest.pdf](RandomForest.pdf)
