Abstract#
Modern astrophysics is driven by large, complex datasets where structures or classifications must often be discovered without prior labels. In this talk, I will introduce the fundamentals of clustering and explain why unsupervised learning plays a central role in the analysis of astronomical data. I will review key techniques such as K-means, Gaussian Mixture Models, DBSCAN, and HDBSCAN, highlighting their strengths, limitations, and typical use cases. Special emphasis will be placed on applications to real astrophysical problems. This talk will be of great use to anyone dealing with any type of astronomical data regardless of research topic! I hope i see you there!
